Class Average Calculator
The class average calculator finds the mean mark for a whole group of students, plus the highest and lowest, so teachers and study groups can summarise a set of results in seconds. Paste every student's mark separated by commas, spaces or new lines and it returns the class mean, the number of marks, the total, and the top and bottom scores.
Calculator
The formula
Class mean = sum of all marks ÷ number of students
Add every student's mark together and divide by how many students there are. The minimum and maximum show the spread of the class, and the count confirms how many marks were included.
Worked example
Seven students score 74, 68, 81, 90, 77, 63 and 88.
- Sum = 74 + 68 + 81 + 90 + 77 + 63 + 88 = 541
- Count = 7
- Class mean = 541 ÷ 7 = 77.29
- Lowest = 63, Highest = 90.
Frequently asked questions
- How many marks can I paste?
- As many as you like — separate them with commas, spaces or new lines and the calculator averages them all.
- Does it show the spread?
- Yes — the minimum and maximum give you the range, so you can see how tightly the class clustered around the mean.
- Is a blank mark counted as zero?
- No — blank or non-numeric entries are ignored so an absent student does not drag the average down. Enter a 0 explicitly if you want it counted.
